From cooking with Margaret to planting food forests
Jingi Wala and G’Day! I’m Anne Price, and I’m so glad you’re here in my little corner of the internet. You are so very welcome!
I am grateful to live and work on the unceded land of the Widjubul Wia-bal people of the Bundjalung Nation, located on the beautiful NSW Far North Coast. It’s a beautiful and special place where sub-tropical rainforest and remnants of the once great Big Scrub come together with lush farmlands, eucalypt forests, heath scrublands, and charming waterways winding their way to the ocean.
As I discover more about the wonderful place I call home—its landscapes, rich soils, diverse cultures, fascinating history, and the many interconnected ecosystems—I find myself falling deeper in love with it.
As a permaculture designer and educator, I truly believe that grasping the nuances of our unique locations is key to effectively planning for our ongoing needs. It’s important for us to ensure that all the essentials remain accessible, especially when faced with the possibility of a natural or human-made disaster that could impact our families and communities.
From the moment I was a teenager, holding my first Margaret Fulton cookbook on the train ride home from the old Sydney Flemington food markets, I have cherished food, cooking, nutrition, and the delightful ways in which experimenting with food enhances our lives.
Even so, I too have found myself at the fridge door after a long day, feeling a bit overwhelmed by the idea of choosing yet another meal—or perhaps not. There are moments when I feel a bit overwhelmed by everything going on. Life today has its own unique challenges. I have, however, discovered a few insights that could be beneficial for all of us as we journey together.
Here I am, excited to share with you a world of possibilities and motivations to:
- embrace the beauty of your surroundings—your one-of-a-kind bioregion,
- Forge the relationships that will nurture your community and strengthen local food resilience, and
- Nourish both your body and spirit, along with those dear to you, by embracing the wonderful gifts of nature, grown right in your community (or even on your windowsill!).
I’m so excited to get started!
Bahna, let’s go!
